BRIAN KOTULIS
I'm a natural story teller in both words and images. Everything from product illustrations to comic-books, this is my bread and butter.
Whether its a catalog, a business card, an event display or a robust ad campaign, I've got you covered.
Are you starting a new company, marketing a product, or re-designing an old look? I start with research to make sure you get what you want.
Do you need to see an idea before you move forward? Like an event space or a product? The advantage of 3D over 2D is that the art can be built to real-world specs.
Not just acne removal or tear repair — we're talking complete, photo realistic scenes built from scratch.
Working with motion is truly a leap into the 4th-dimension — Time. Social posts, sizzle reels, animated graphics and more.
Need help with the 30-thousand foot view as well as the tiny details? I use research and experience to power your whole campaign. I've worked with global brands and mom-and-pop shops to develop impactful concepts.

A good Concept ALWAYS comes down to three variables: Audience, Application, and Context...
The prestigious developer, Alden Development Group, was debuting a new high-luxury condominium project in the heart of Birmingham, Michigan. Their task for us was to consider a potential name for the building and to develop a brand mark to accompany. The project later evolved into additional marketing tasks, which are expanded in a separate case study here on Behance.
The materials below reflect the Research and Development phase where I present my research, my prevailing logic, and next steps. This presentation was delivered to the client, the architect, and the board of the developers with high acclaim.

Frequently, a project comes along that seems totally beyond you. Here's how to get engaged with amazing ideas...
The 50th anniversary of Carpenter's 1962 orbit in the Aurora-7 Mercury capsule and the relaunch of Breitling's Navitimer Cosmonaute. The work below is a window graphic, a 1:1 model of the actual Aurora-7 capsule, and a total event build-out honoring M. Scott Carpenter who wore a Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute timepiece during his historic 1962 orbital flight around Earth. Also honored at this event were freshly-retired American Flight Commander Mark Kelly, and Russian Cosmonaute Sergey Volov. Breitling hosted the event at their flagship boutique at 57th Street, New York, New York. On May 24, 2012, Swiss watchmaker and our client, Breitling, honored Mr. Scott Carpenter. One of the original pilots who orbited the Earth just prior to the historic moon landing three months later, Mr. Carpenter piloted the Aurora-7 capsule around the Earth three times on May 24, 1962 before splashing down in the ocean. His craft malfunctioned upon re-entry and required him to navigate into Earth's atmosphere completely manually, which was a death-defying and unprecedented feat. Mr. Carpenter's journey through orbit also helped solve the mystery of the Space Fireflies, previously discovered by John Glenn on a previous flight a month earlier. Between these two men, the entire planet was glued to their televisions and radios for news of extraterrestrial life (sparking what we now call the Pulp Sci-Fi era) before learning that the explosive and seemingly sentient balls of fire surrounding the capsules were in fact ice. I've been feeling a bit nostalgic about some old favorite comics.
As I seldom get the chance to both draw and paint (and I desperately wanted to paint) I pulled out an old sketch created by Mr. Fred Perry (not the designer/clothier), the comic illustrator of Antarctic Press fame. In particular, his serial, Gold Digger, which continues to be one of the only serials I still collect religiously. It's an odd title, to be sure, but I really love the home-brew and underground nature of this title, as I've been with it since inception. It's one of those titles where the artist/author is one-in-the-same and he takes all corners of pop and pulp culture and infuses it shamelessly into his invented universe. Part Tomb Raider, part Robotech, part James Bond, part Pirates of the Caribbean, part furry (uh oh?), all inventive. I really do find it to be one of the more whimsical but honest creations out there. Although the most recent (post 2005) editions are guilty of "trying too hard" in my opinion, the original books from V1 #1 through V1 #50 or so are just fun. Pure and simple.
...So in a shameless heist of creative property, I am dusting off my Wacom, sharpening my stylus, and taking an honest stab at being Fred's colorist for a day. This illustration is an unused cover to an early story arc in the series. Gina (the human) and her younger, were-cheetah sister Brittany (middle) battle two werewolves on their way to Eldorado in search of an ancient treasure/civilization.

I am always seeking new assignments and to evolve my own creative direction, and so I would love to hear about new opportunities with new people, new ideas, or new capabilities...I am hoping that I can be these things for you, too!
