Submission Guidelines

What to Send:

Artwork must be rated G to PG-13. Artistic nudity acceptable, at the discretion of the Jury.

DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS! Absolutely NO submitted materials will be returned!

You may submit works as:
POST MAIL:
• 8-1/2" x 11" (21.6cm x 28cm) color prints
• 8-1/2" x 11" (21.6cm x 28cm) color photocopied prints
• CD-ROM
• DVD-ROM
• 100MB or 250MB ZIP Disk.

ELECTRONICALLY:
• Uploaded via FTP (see Entry Form for FTP info)
• Sent via email (10-megs or less per email), to: brian@intrinsikdesign.com

Please submit high-res files only (300 dpi or better). Low-resolution files (below 300 dpi) will not print clearly and will be weeded out.

All files must be saved in CMYK color mode.

Acceptable file formats include:
• JPG (level 12)
• TIF (without LZW compression)
• PSD (flattened text layers)
• EPS (text converted to outlines)
• AI (text converted to outlines)

ALL submitted works MUST be accompanied by a completely filled-out form, found on the “Entry Form” page. One form per work. If submitting a sequence, only one form is necessary unless each panel/page was completed in a different medium, etc.

You may enter as often as you wish.

Works can be pre-existing, or specially created for this competition.

You MUST be the artist/designer/creator in order to qualify.

Do NOT submit works which contain Copyrighted or Trademarked characters!

For the VOLUNTEER STAGE (Mock-Ups 1 and 2): Please confirm that you are interested in allowing one or more pieces to be displayed in a mock-up of the Aether publication as a DEMONSTRATION ONLY. These volunteer pieces WILL be entered into the competition, but their inclusion into the mock-up(s) does NOT guarantee they will pass the Jury Panel during the official

Entry Fees:

As a special ONE-TIME OFFER ONLY for the 2007 debut edition, the $15 submission fee will be waived! There is NO fee to compete in this edition.

How to Prepare your Artwork:

Scanning & Importing:

If you have a scanner:
1) Using your favorite scanning software, make a scan at 600dpi RGB Mode.
2) Open the image in your image editing software (i.e. Photoshop, etc). Down-scale your image to 300dpi.
3) If a color image, convert the image to CMYK.
4) If the image is Black & White, you can save the image as CMYK for a richer quality. However, saving as "Greyscale" is also fine.
5) Save the image as JPG (Level 12), or TIF (no LZW compression).

If you have a digital camera:
1) Set your camera to the HIGHEST quality setting available. (4-megapixels or better is preferable).
2) Using natural (outdoor) light, photograph your piece STRAIGHT ON. DO NOT shoot the artwork from an angle. Be careful of ALL glare, hotspots, or shadows. Prevent the artwork from curving or bending.
3) Take several photos to guarantee a good selection to choose from.
4) Open the image in your favorite image editing software (i.e. Photoshop, etc) and adjust any levels.
5) If a color image, convert the image to CMYK.
6) If the image is Black & White, you can save the image as CMYK for a richer quality. However, saving as "Greyscale" is also fine.
7) Save the image as JPG (Level 12), or TIF (no LZW compression).

AETHER WILL NOT PERFORM ANY PHOTO-RETOUCHING, BALANCING, COLOR-CORRECTING OR POST-WORK TO YOUR ARTWORK. HOW YOU SUBMIT IT IS HOW IT WILL BE PRINTED.

Creating Photocopies:

If making photocopies:
1) If possible, choose a copier that seems to be calibrated for the best color. (Some machines in public copy-houses are ill-maintained and not calibrated, so images will have too much Cyaan, Magenta, etc.)
2) Make sure the image is properly squared-up on the plate-glass.
3) Make several copies and choose the one which seems to reflect the original the best.
4) PLEASE NOTE that if you are ONLY sending the printed proof (and no digital copy), we will be scanning this proof to use in the book! The quality we end-up with is determined by the quality you give us! Make sure color/contrast is how you want it to look BEFORE you submit!
